Health and Physical Education (HPE)

 The Health and Physical Education program uses the National Curriculum. Students learn skills though moving the body, understanding movement, working together, being healthy, safe and active.

 A specialist teacher delivers the movement and physical activity component of Health and Physical Education at our school. Students from Prep to year 6 take part in regular weekly lessons. The Health and Physical Education program contains developmental units comprising of the following content below.

Year Level

Yearly Overview: 2015

Prep year  

 

Students have opportunities to demonstrate fundamental skills such as underarm/overarm throwing, catching, rolling, bouncing, trapping, kicking and striking.

  • Locomotion movements such as hop, gallop, jump, skip, side step, leap and run
  • Running games
  • Applying the fundamental skills into simple games and activities
  • Movement exploration with bean bags and large balls
  • Body movements such as balancing, coordination and laterality as part of Perceptual Motor Program
  • Parachute and movement activities

Year 1-3

 

Students practise and refine fundamental movement skills in different situations during different activities and modified games.

These include:

  • Small and Large ball skills such as throwing, catching, bouncing, dribbling and kicking using a variety of equipment
  • Modified Soccer
  • Modified Hockey
  • Australian Football League
  • Kanga Cricket
  • Tee-ball
  • Modified Athletics events and tabloids
  • Running and fitness games

Year 4-6

 

Students practise specialised movement skills and apply them in different situations and games.

These include:

  • Kanga Cricket
  • League Tag
  • Netball
  • Australian Football League
  • Soccer
  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Athletics track and field events
  • Running games

 

Throughout the year students participate in:

  • Swimming Carnival  (currently Term 1)
  • Cross- Country  Carnival  (currently Term 2)
  • Athletics   Carnival (currently Term 2)
  • Inter-house sport competitions   (all year)
