The school's music opportunities are very important to our school and community. Music is available in the form of junior choir, senior choir, instrumental music program, senior band, junior band and the recently formed Sting ensemble.
Junior choir practises every Thursday at second play and is available for students in Prep to year 4. Junior choir performs at the Beechmont Markets twice a year as well as singing carols at Binna Burra for their annual Christmas in July celebration. The choir also performs at the community ANZAC service every year.
Senior choir also practises every Thursday at second play. Senior choir also perform at the Beechmont markets and ANZAC Day and at times enters the Gold Coast Eisteddfod.
Beechmont's instrumental music program is certainly something to be very proud of. Almost 1/3 of the school population learn an instrument in the brass, woodwind and percussion. In 2012 the school introduced a strings program with a violin ensemble being formed for the first time. Instrumental music is broken into junior band and senior band. Details of the instrumental music program including cost, hiring instruments and buying instruments can all be found in the Information handbook (PDF, 153 KB).
Instrumental music lessons are on a rotating timetable so that children are not missing the same class lessons each week. This is for all participants in the instrumental music program.
Junior band have their lessons every Thursday from 1.30 pm until 3 pm. They are divided into groups depending on their instrument and receive free small group lessons. Read the Information handbook for more details.
Senior band have their lessons each Wednesday. They have a full band rehearsal from 7.45 am - 8.45 am every Wednesday. Children are expected to be ready to play at 7.45.
String ensemble have their lessons every Thursday from 1.30 pm - 3.00 pm. Children need their own violins to take part in this program, the school only has two violins for hire and these have already been hired to students.
